Get Relief from the Discomfort of “Tennis Elbow”

January 3, 2023

You needn’t be a tennis player to suffer from tennis elbow. Despite its name, athletes aren’t the only people who develop this condition.

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful ailment that appears when tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. People whose jobs feature the types of motions that can lead to tennis elbow include plumbers, painters, carpenters and butchers.

At the office of Maryland Center For ARC, we offer skilled and experienced care to support optimal use of your elbow and provide the treatment you require to alleviate this condition and prevent its reoccurrence.

The ache of tennis elbow occurs primarily where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to a bony bump on the outside of your elbow. Soreness can also spread into your forearm and wrist. It may also radiate from the outside of your elbow into your forearm and wrist. Pain and weakness may make it difficult to shake hands or grip an object, turn a doorknob or hold a drinking cup.

Factors that may increase your risk of tennis elbow include:

Age: It's most common in folks between the ages of 30 and 50.

Occupation: Individuals who have jobs that involve repetitive motions of the wrist and arm.

Certain sports: Participating in racquet sports (tennis, platform tennis, racquetball, squash) increases your risk of tennis elbow, especially if you have a poor stroke technique.

At the office of Maryland Center For ARC, our professional team, using their extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and the complexities of how the elbow functions, is well equipped to diagnose and treat a wide range of acute or chronic cases of tennis elbow. We also provide care for injuries such as shoulder pain, sprains, strains, dislocations, sore/swollen muscles and tendon or joint injuries. Please call our office today to arrange an appointment!
